Bounding the field on the south is the Brentwood-Las Cienegas Fault, and the field ends on the west near the Santa Monica Fault Complex.

A conservation plan prepared for the camp in 1988 noted that the camp is located on the Palo Colorado Fault, part of the San Gregorio-Hosgri Fault, a branch of the San Andreas Fault complex.

Horizontally, the fault defines the course of the Santa Clara River and the northern base of the hills south of the river ( including South Mountain ), and is part of the fault complex responsible for the 1994 Northridge earthquake.
